Mishka Henner Talk, my thoughts

So today at University we had a guest speaker come and talk to us about their art career and experience, That guest was Manchester based artist Mishka Henner. He was very interesting in regards to how he became an artist as that was not his first career jump. As he mentioned he never saw himself becoming an artist as he was more of a photographer proving that no one can plan what happens. He explained it took him until the age of 26 to find his artistic muse. This was a great point proving that anyone can become whatever they want if they pursue it. So after the introduction he showcased his work and he used photography as the base of his artwork. Using webcam, satellite imagery and projection techniques he was able to create some interesting things. I personally liked his approach to the arts. he didn't plan it. He expressed he was living within his means day to day for years and proving that perfection takes time. Funny I mention perfection as I could tell He was a perfectionist. He argued that he won't publish any work that he doesn't think meets the sweet spot. I disagree with that approach. The viewer should be the judge. An artist creates what they are emotionally capable of and that is the greatest gift to the world no matter how controversial. To wrap this up I am a fan of Mishka not just for his work but for his personality. he wasn't brought up in an artistic environment he experienced that all on his own and became a success.
